WBC2025 update: October 2023

In 2025 Purdue University will host the 23rd World Building Congress #WBC2025 at its campus in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA, from 19-23 May 2025. The CIB President Makarand (Mark) Hastak and his conference co-chair Z Torbica look forward to welcoming all CIB members and other delegates. Planning is progressing well as this update shows. 

Headlines

Host: Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA, on campus
Dates: May 19th – 23rd 2025
Conference co-chairs: Mark Hastak, Z Torbica
Working title: “Sustainable built environment – the role of the construction community in meeting the UN SDGs”
Format: mainly face-to-face with some hybrid sessions (most sessions recorded but not simultaneous/hybrid)
Target capacity: 600 pax, 700 max

Scientific Committee

This has met twice to date in August and September with two sessions per meeting as for WBC2022 to maximise attendance in different time zones, and further meetings are planned for October and November prior to the Call for Abstracts to be published in late November.

All CIB Commission Coordinators were invited to join the SC along with North American members and representatives of other associations in USA. Some 85 people accepted the invitation and over 60 have attended at least one of the first two meetings.

Other matters progressed by the Local Organising Committee with CIB and discussed with the Scientific Committee include:

  • Proposals for themes, tracks and sessions
  • Ideas for keynote speakers and other plenary sessions
  • Industry discussion panels
  • Indexed Proceedings, Special Issues
  • Students/ECR activities
  • Papers management system including template selection
  • Key roles for CIB Commission Coordinators
  • Delegate fees
  • Conference website.

Next steps

The next steps up to November 2023 are to:

  • Outline programme of sessions
  • Finalise the Memorandum of Understanding between CIB and Purdue,
  • Meet with CIB’s partner journals re Special Issues,
  • Populate the website with preliminary information,
  • Launch the Call for Abstracts on November 20th.
